El Morro was begun by the Spanish in 1539 and expanded over 250 years into a six-level fortress overlooking the Atlantic. Together with Castillo San Cristóbal and the city walls, it forms the San Juan National Historic Site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The huge lawn in front is a favourite place for families to fly kites.

Tips

  • One ticket covers El Morro and San Cristóbal
  • Walk the Paseo del Morro along the walls
