Saint Lucia's twin volcanic spires, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, rise straight from the sea near Soufrière and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island is mountainous and green, with rainforest trails, waterfalls and cocoa estates.
It's a favourite for honeymoons, with hillside resorts looking out at the Pitons, but also has lively Friday-night street parties at Gros Islet and good diving along the west coast.
