Cartagena's old town is enclosed by around 11 km of walls built to protect the Spanish treasure port. The port, fortresses and monuments are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nearby Getsemaní has street art and nightlife, and Castillo San Felipe de Barajas guards the city from a hill.
